Autumn 1 Week 5

Aspire Suite

This week has been an extremely busy one in Aspire, with lots of different visitors to school. The children have coped exceptionally well with these changes to their routine, demonstrating flexibility, resilience and a positive attitude throughout.

Maths

Years 3/4 have begun exploring number bonds and different methods of addition, developing their confidence with number relationships and calculation strategies.

Years 5/6 completed their work on rounding numbers to the nearest 100 and 1,000 and also enjoyed a light-touch introduction to Roman numerals.

English

This week, both groups completed their work on Paddington. Pupils used descriptive language to create their own sentences about Paddington, drawing on their understanding of his character and adventures. It was wonderful to see the children applying vocabulary and ideas from the text to produce their own writing.

Topic

During our afternoon sessions, we spent lots of time outdoors exploring the colours, textures and natural resources found around our school grounds. Pupils used these materials creatively to make self-portraits and construct their own Stone Age shelters, linking their learning to our topic work.

We also enjoyed a lovely afternoon putting our instructional writing skills into practice. Building on last week's English lessons, pupils followed and sequenced instructions carefully to make their own rice crispy cakes. The activity provided a fantastic opportunity to develop independence, teamwork and practical life skills, and the children were very excited taking their creations home to share with their loved ones.

It has been another positive week in Aspire, with pupils continuing to develop their confidence, creativity and independence through a range of engaging learning experiences.
