Week 3 and we are getting into the flow of class life. We are making good progress with our class book The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. Our writing is developing into paragraphs, and we have enjoyed designing posters to show what the WORST school would look and feel like in PSHE. In maths, we are now flexibly partitioning numbers into 1,000.

This week we have been learning about:

English – We tackled similes and played sorting games to help us describe things and places 'like' and 'as' something else.

Spelling – Suffixes using the letters 'ly' and 'ment'

Guided Reading – The Twits were the text we used to practice our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills.

Maths – Partitioning numbers up to 1,000

History – The Neolithic period took us on a journey to Skara Brae in Scotland as we explored what life was like in that period.

Science – The human skeleton. We all enjoyed as sing-a-long to Dem Bones, Dem Bones, Dem thigh bones...

Geography – We compared Kings Lynn to San Francisco and looked at the physical geography of the two locations, including Bays, Peninsulas and Straits

PSHE – As part of the Being Me in My World we studied what that worst school would look like and how we wouldn't feel safe or respected.

P.E. – We continued with our hockey skills.

Week 2 and 3H were tearing it up in Mondays reward assembly. Not only did we have our first Golden Certificate of the Year, but one pupil from our class was chosen above all others in Years 3 and 4, by Mr Watson for a PE award. Additionally, we had multiple Times Table Rock Star certificates ....but we did not finish there. The best performing student ACROSS the WHOLE school for Ravenclaw house came from 3H! What an achievement. I am so proud of how you are kick-starting life at Parkway Academy.

    This week we learnt about:

Maths – Number lines to 100

English – We started sentence stacking and our text was the Three Little Pigs, the Wolf's story.

Spellings and Handwriting – Practising joining our letters and words ending with the suffixes -ed, -er, -ing

Guided Reading – We read the first chapters of The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl before building our vocabulary, retrieval and inference skills to answer questions

Science – We continued with our study of voluntary and non-voluntary muscle movements

Geography – We built on our knowledge of the compass points and moved on to Grid References.

History – The Neolithic era is the next step we started to explore in the Stone Age.

RE - Creation Stories across multiple faiths

    PE - Hockey

    Published 13/09/26, by Jo Haldenby

What a wonderful 7 days we have had in Year 3. Everyone is settling in really well, and we earned ourselves a non-uniform day for our excellent attendance – GO 3H!

There have been many new routines to learn, but with lots of practice, it will become second nature soon enough.

In the curriculum we learnt about:

Maths – Place value and partitioning numbers up to 100

English – Nouns, adjectives and time adverbials as we aim to re-write the tale of the 3 little pigs, taking on the view of the Big Bad Wolf...or is he?

Geography – We looked at the 8 points of a compass. We had one person going the extra mile and adding flags in each direction.

History – Exploring the difference between the Old Stone Age and the Middle Stone Age

Science – The Human Body. We made a steady start at exploring voluntary and involuntary muscle movement.

Art – We looked at the artist Paul Klee as we studied line and form

PSHE – To know our worth and recognise positive things about ourselves and others
