Parkway Academy Physical Education Vision Statement 2026-27
Parkway Academy Physical Education Vision 2026–27
At Parkway Academy, we believe that high-quality physical education has the power to empower children and positively influence every aspect of their lives. In line with our whole-school vision, “We Believe Education Empowers Children and Families,” our PE curriculum aims to develop confident, active and resilient young people who understand the importance of physical activity, health and wellbeing.
Our vision for 2026–27 is that every pupil will experience an inclusive, ambitious and high-quality physical education curriculum, where all children are supported and challenged to achieve their personal best. Through high-quality teaching, pupils will develop their physical competence, knowledge and understanding across a broad range of sports and physical activities, whilst also developing the wider life skills that underpin success beyond the PE lesson.
PE at Parkway Academy is about more than developing physical skills. We aim to nurture teamwork, communication, cooperation, leadership, resilience, respect, independence and a positive attitude towards challenge. Through competitive and collaborative experiences, pupils will learn to understand fairness, respect rules and opponents, celebrate success and respond positively to setbacks. These experiences support our wider commitment to developing pupils who are confident problem-solvers and responsible members of their community.
We will continue to provide a minimum of two hours of high-quality PE lessons each week, supported by a broad and progressive curriculum which exposes pupils to a wide variety of sports and physical activities. Alongside the PE curriculum, we will promote an active school culture through opportunities such as dance, swimming, active breakfast provision, lunchtime activities, after-school clubs and competitive sporting events. These opportunities will encourage pupils to discover activities they enjoy and develop positive attitudes towards physical activity that can continue throughout their lives.
Inclusion will remain at the heart of our provision. Every pupil should feel that PE is a place where they belong, can participate, can improve and can experience success. We will continue to ensure that teaching and opportunities are adapted appropriately so that pupils of all abilities and backgrounds can engage fully, whilst challenging pupils to exceed their own expectations. This reflects Parkway Academy’s wider commitment to equality, inclusion and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
We will also continue to develop leadership and community opportunities, building on the links established with local sports clubs and organisations across King's Lynn and West Norfolk. By strengthening these partnerships, we aim to broaden pupils’ experiences and ensure they are aware of the wide range of opportunities available to them beyond school. Our ambition is not simply to develop successful pupils within PE, but to help children discover activities and experiences that can contribute to their physical and emotional wellbeing long after they leave Parkway Academy.
Ultimately, we want every pupil to leave Parkway Academy with the knowledge, skills, confidence and motivation to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. We want them to understand the benefits of physical activity, recognise its contribution to mental and emotional wellbeing, and have the confidence to participate, compete, cooperate and lead.
Through PE, we will continue to empower our pupils to be the best they can be – physically, socially and emotionally – whilst living out the Parkway values of teamwork, respect, resilience and ambition.
