Autumn 1 Week 4
Aspire Suite
This week in Aspire, we have continued to explore our expectations and routines, supporting pupils to develop a positive approach to learning. We have focused on building confidence, resilience and independence whilst celebrating successes across the week.
Maths
Years 3/4 explored ordering numbers and locating them on a number line, developing their understanding of place value and number sequences.
Years 5/6 looked at ordering numbers using a number line and rounding numbers to the nearest 10.
English
Both groups continued their work on Paddington, creating a set of instructions for making marmalade sandwiches. To test their instructions, pupils directed an adult to follow them exactly. The activity led to some amusing outcomes. In Years 3/4, Mrs Fox was told to spread jam but not to take it out of the jar, whilst in Years 5/6, Mrs Hopkins began making sandwiches on the floor! This helped pupils understand the importance of including clear, precise details when writing instructions.

Topic

During the afternoons, we are continuing to develop a more holistic approach to learning, with activities designed to build communication, turn-taking, fine and gross motor skills, independence and teamwork. Alongside this, each week has a curriculum-linked focus. This week, pupils explored how people in the Stone Age communicated and expressed themselves through art. They learnt about cave paintings and created their own prehistoric artwork, using symbols and images to tell stories just as Stone Age people may have done thousands of years ago.

It has been another positive week in Aspire, with pupils showing enthusiasm, creativity and a growing willingness to challenge themselves in their learning.
