Autumn 1 Week 2
Aspire Suite
This week in Aspire, we have continued to work on our expectations and routines, supporting pupils to develop independence, confidence and positive learning behaviours. We have also continued to reflect on how we can demonstrate the Parkway Academy values in our daily interactions and learning.
Maths
Years 3/4 explored one more, one less and used number lines to support their understanding of number.
Years 5/6 focused on partitioning numbers and finding more or less than a given number, developing their place value knowledge and mental calculation skills.
English
Both groups continued their work on Paddington, using comprehension skills such as inference and retrieval to discuss characters, events and themes within the text.

History
Years 3/4 explored the Neolithic period, learning about how people lived and the changes that took place during this era.

Years 5/6 began their learning about war on land, in the air and at sea, exploring the different ways conflicts were fought and the impact this had on people’s lives.

Science
Years 3/4 moved on from learning about muscles to exploring the human skeleton, identifying different bones and their functions.
Years 5/6 were introduced to the concept of gestation and explored how living things grow and develop before birth.
Geography
Years 3/4 were introduced to grid references and practised locating places on maps, linking their learning to Moana.
Years 5/6 continued to develop their geographical knowledge by exploring compass points, the Tropic of Capricorn, and other important lines of latitude.

We continue to reflect on the Parkway Academy rules and values, encouraging pupils to show respect, responsibility and kindness in all aspects of school life.
